Callan Young of the Elite Four had some thoughts and questions. This worried her. Had the past already caught up? It would be quick, but she wouldn’t have been surprised.

But be that as it may, she had agreed.

She led Callan to her dressing room. Found at the edges of the Theme park. It was surprisingly spacious. Perhaps even luxurious compared to what the rest of the staff was offered. But hey, it was her own little home away from home so to speak.

Thick walls, and a very secure looking door. Not a sound would enter or exit the moment they had both moved in there. Various costumes hang neatly at the far end wall. All various plays on the theme of JESTER’S QUEEN.

A single window allowed those inside to peer out, but not the other way around. And it was here they would find one of Johanna’s Pokémon sitting neatly on one of the few chairs in here.

The Shiinotic tensed immediately as it saw Callan. Eyes quickly moving to Johanna for reassurances that this person was alright.

She gave the Mushroom a nod and it relaxed again.

“We can speak freely here.” Johanna said. “And before you ask. Anything you want to ask, can be asked in Adair’s presence.” She gestured for the Shiinotic. She was not about to be completely alone with Callan.

Callan looked towards Johanna in a moment of surprise, then towards the Shiinotic, and smiled. "It's okay, Johanna." He said, before pulling up a chair and sitting down. [break][break]

Yes, something had been eking at him since their first expedition into the Border. But it was a hunch, nothing more, as was this. In truth, he had no idea if Johanna was in trouble at all, but he had an obligation to look after the people supporting the League structure, so he'd do exactly that. [break][break]

"You're now a gym leader, which means I have to look after your interests and make sure things are alright." Callan begins, his eyes turn towards Johanna. "So I wanted to check in and see how you are doing." In other words, he wanted to see if the gym leader position complicated anything in regards to her history, which he wasn't going to pry into.

Callan’s surprise was not lost upon Johanna and Shiinotic. But there was little they could do about that. After Zev Harcourt’s little visit she had to be cautious.

Callan took a seat, but Johanna kept standing, arms crossed, body mildly tense.

“Oh, that’s very thoughtful of you.” She eased a bit.

“Well, I will admit. Opening this place has been a bit more stressful than I imagined. But it’s nothing I can’t handle.” Johanna tried to reassure the Elite Four member. But truth be told, was it not for the lovely staff that she had hired, there would’ve been no way she could’ve done it in time.

Callan maintains his gaze at her. "Johanna," He pulls out a cigarette from his pocket and pressed it to his lips, and lights it. He takes a drag, letting the nicotine pass into his lungs before continuing, "Let's say that I assume everything is okay, and that I walk away believing the only reason you look white as a ghost is because of the stress of setting up the gym."

"I'll tell you what's going to happen." Callan takes a second drag, "They will make assurances that as long as you don't break the silence, they will leave you alone. Afterwards, they will take reassurance, whether its a loved one, a Pokemon, or a member of your family, or something valuable to you. This will be used to stall you from taking any action until they figure out how to kill you." Callan paused, throught the entire time, he does not stop staring at her.

"You are a threat to them alive. No matter what assurances you give them, it will never be enough." He lowers his cigarette and takes out a small asher, tipping cinders into it. "There is no clean way out of Rocket. But you will have my guarantee that the League will do their best to protect you and your loved ones, regardless of affiliation." He pauses to give her time to process what he had spoken.

"So, Johanna, please be honest with me. Is there any trouble you are under?"

Johanna didn’t avert her gaze. Though as Callan’s gaze drilled into her, she regretted not doing so.

Callan knew.

Oh he knew…

The words he spoke, the implications they carried. Almost as if he understood the situation she was in. But how did he know?

Eyes finally broke from Callan’s gaze, seeking the comfort of the flooring they stood upon.

The Shiinotic was quick to jump from its seat, and walk over to reassure its trainer. But for a moment it shot Callan a look that even without words showed that the mushroom was not pleased with his pushing.

“I… Uhm…” And for a moment she could not find the words, stuttering stumbling about the subject as she felt like she was ten years old once again, being scolded by her mother for failing at a simple task.

But this was not her mother that stood before her. This was Callan Young one of the Elite Four. This was a person who very easily could take away all that she had worked so hard on building.

“I just didn’t want to hurt anyone anymore. And maybe even make up for some of the things they forced me to do.” Though no tears left her eyes, her body trembled with the overload of emotions.

Shiinotic kept trying to calm its trainer.

“I… I don’t want to lose all of this.” She finally sniffled. Her eyes were watery as she looked back at Callan. Tears kept back through sheer trained will.

Callan nodded, slowly, "It's okay, go on." He spoke, and listened as she spoke. Callan rose from his seat and hugged her for assurance, before letting go and pulling a flask from his pocket. Whiskey. "Here, have a drink Johanna. Nothing's gonna happen."

Seating himself back down again, he speaks, his tone is low and gentle, but serious. Given the situation. "I'm not going to ask you anything, and you didn't tell me anything about your affiliations, so you haven't broken your promise."

Callan paused, making sure she was alright and not about to have a breakdown of any kind, before continuing. "Do you have a place to stay, a friend's place? The Joy manor, perhaps? Someplace with security. You'll want to bring any known loved ones with you."

The hug came as a surprise.

She looked at Callan, baffled by the kindness. Then he offered her a drink. She gratefully accepted, only for her to regret that choice as the whiskey burned through her.

The Shiinotic sighed in relief as Johanna calmed down. It seemed Callan’s promises were enough to avoid what breakdown had been on its way.

A nervous hand ran through her blue hair as she kept standing. “I can stay at the Joy Manor.” She said, though she had wanted to avoid imposing herself any further than she already had. But perhaps it was unavoidable.

“As for loved ones.” A quick thought went to Megan Whitmore. “I don’t believe they know about her yet. And even if they do, she knows how to defend herself, I'd even consider her a better trainer than me.” Megan was every bit the trainer Johanna was, if not more. “The rest of my family already lives at the Manor…” She trailed off, for a moment pondering if this meant she had to tell her mother what she had been a part of.

Callan breathes a momentary sigh of relief. "Okay, that's good to know." He pauses briefly to consider her situation, "I'd suggest staying there for a while, until your apartment gets upgraded. Don't stop coming to the gym, don't act out of the ordinary." Callan begins.

"I know someone, her name is PENELOPE LIVY, she's the head of intelligence at the Pokemon League. If you are comfortable with it, I will tell her of your situation, she has the contacts and resources to make sure you're looked after. If you would rather not, I will keep this to myself." Callan began. "Regardless, I never spoke to you today, I just came in for a battle and now I'm leaving after the assessment, yes?"

It seemed her words were enough to satisfy Callan. She had no reason not to take his advice. So for the time being she would do it.

Admittedly, she had no reason to trust Callan, save for the fact that he seemed genuine in his wish to help. But as he suggested speaking with PENELOPE LIVY she tensed slightly.

“How can I be sure that she sees me in the same light you do?” If this Penelope was the head of Intelligence, then surely she would look at her like a liability, a leakage from which information could flow. Honestly, her ascend to Gym Leader right after leaving Team Rocket was sure to raise a few red flags.

“I would rather not. But I do not want you to get in trouble for me. So don’t lie if they ask.” Johanna said.

But regardless it seemed their little conversation was reaching their end. She gave Callan a nod agreeing with his little ‘cover story’

It wasn't the first time he's hidden someone from public view. Callan sucked in a breath and released it, even when he had no cigarette to inhale nicotine from. The action relaxed him. "I don't know myself either, Johanna." Callan replied, a weak smile on his face. "But I'll respect your wishes, don't worry. You're safe."

Callan ran his thumbs against each other, staring at them for a small period of time. The higher he went, the bluerrier things got. Where was the simplicity in things when he first started off?

When all he did was rescue Pokemon from ravines and disentangle people from ecological disaster? When his problems were only rent, depression and how to impress Elinor?

How stardom and status had changed him. Callan rose from his seat, looking towards Johanna, surveying her one last time.

He believed her. "Get some rest Johanna, take as much time off if you need to make sure you're safe. And let me know if you're in trouble."

Johanna was grateful to Callan for accepting her terms as they were. And with that their conversation came to an end.

Callan gave her one last reminder to get rest. To which she nodded. “I will.” Johanna muttered as she would watch him leave.

And for a moment once the door had closed a sigh of relief. For a moment she had felt like everything was so close to crumbling. But it seems she made it this time.
